The Story Of The Berkshire Carousel
In the heart of the Berkshires, a unique dream took shape: to build something authentic—a wooden carousel. While most might honor their hometown with a park bench or a small community project, Jim and Jackie Shulman envisioned something far more ambitious: a living work of art that would celebrate both tradition and togetherness.
Every horse, chariot, rounding board, and bench found a sponsor, helping breathe life into this handcrafted masterpiece.
Over 300 volunteers—ranging from seasoned artisans to first-time carvers and painters—joined the effort. Together, they created more than just a carousel; they built a symbol of community spirit and forged friendships that continue to thrive. Make the dream a reality.
Each figure on the carousel tells a story, modeled after classical designs that pay homage to the great carvers of the past. The result is a beautiful blend of historical artistry and modern collaboration, spinning a timeless tale of creativity, connection, and care.
Though paused temporarily due to the pandemic, the Berkshire Carousel is once again in motion, spinning joy into the hearts of all who visit. It’s more than a ride. It’s a journey through craftsmanship, history, and shared community pride.
